Zager & Evans had a hit song in 1969, "In the Year 2525." That future is a long way off. This siren song of doom starts slowly with a sad spoken warning, until a mid tempo melody kicks in. That gets things rollin.' The song was ranked #2 for the whole year, behind The 5th Dimension's "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In."

Denny Zager and Richard Evans were folk - rock guys. Their big claim to fame? Capturing lightning in a bottle as masterful one hit wonders, arriving and departing the scene faster than the coming gloom their song predicted.
